Guimaras’ 2022 budget balloons to P1 billion

A new policy takes effect next month in the provincial government of Guimaras – job hires must have themselves vaccinated against coronavirus disease or their contracts won’t be renewed. Those applying for job hire positions must also be vaccinated.

GUIMARAS – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) unanimously approved this province’s budget for 2022 amounting to P1,053,228,261.

This is the General Fund covering various expenditures for the operation of the provincial government, particularly Personal Services (PS) and Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE), among others.

The SP, presided by Vice Gov. John Edward Gando, also approved P166,190,000 for the Local Economic Enterprise covering the operation of the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH).

Gando said the budget for 2022 also covered the provincial government’s pandemic response, infrastructure projects for five towns (Jordan, Buenavista, San Lorenzo, Sibunag, and Nueva Valencia) and super typhoon “Odette” recovery efforts.

The 2022 budget is P281,544,177 higher than the 2021 budget of P771,684,084.

This is due to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Mandanas-Garcia case, in which local government units (LGUs) will now have a share in the tariff collected by the Bureau of Customs, said Gando./PN
