ILOILO City – The local government of Guimaras is determined to “level up” activities in this year’s Manggahan Festival.

This year, the festival – which is set on May 11 to 22 – marks its 25th anniversary.

Provincial Tourism Office head Liberty Ferrer said they are making an inventory of the province’s mango production to determine the supply for the festival.

The supply will be for the mango eat-all-you-can and chandelier-making contests, Ferrer said.

Ushering the Manggahan Festival highlights is the “Manggahan sa Kabanwahanan” event – a cultural presentation that will be held in each of the five municipalities of Guimaras after the Manggahan caravan on April 2.

Manggahan will also host several national sports activities likethe biking and motocross event dubbed as “King of Kings.”

Hubon Manguguma from San Lorenzo town – the champion in the Kasadyahan Regional Cultural Competition of the 2018 Dinagyang Festival – is expected to render a“bigger” cultural presentation during Manggahan.

Ferrer said they are also looking forward to the performances of other festival representatives outside Western Visayas.

Manggahan is expected to gather thousands of people in Guimaras. Last year, more than 60,000 attended.

“We target an increase of 15 percent in our tourist arrivals for the Manggahan Festival,” Ferrer said. (PNA/PN)
