GUIMARAS – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Guimaras has expressed support for an investigation by both the Senate and the House of Representatives into the extensive power outage that affected Guimaras, Panay and parts of Negros last week through Resolution No. 14 passed on Jan. 9.

The resolution, sponsored by Vice Gov. John Edward Gando, highlighted the severe impact of the blackout on local residents, disrupting livelihoods and forcing families to cope with heat and darkness for an extended period.

The resolution called for a thorough investigation into the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), questioning its capacity and reliability in fulfilling its mandate.

The investigation aims to uncover potential violations and implement appropriate sanctions, ensuring such incidents do not recur and holding responsible parties accountable.

Sen. Raffy Tulfo, chairing the Senate Committee on Energy, led a hearing on the matter at the Senate Building in Pasay City yesterday afternoon.

The House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy is scheduled to conduct a congressional inquiry today at the Ramon V. Mitra Building of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.

Gando said possible violations and corresponding sanctions should be determined “to prevent our citizens from once again being made to suffer this tremendous ordeal.”/PN
