GUIMARAS – This island province is marking the 2021 edition of the world-famous Manggahan Festival with no physical activities due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
The yearly month-long (every May) socio-cultural celebration of Guimaras’ culture, traditions and economy anchored on one of its most successful industries – mango cultivation – has gone virtual.
“eManggahan” – with the theme “Engage, Enjoy, Experience” – aims to bring the Manggahan vibe online through a series of virtual events.
Aside from highlighting the island’s sweet mangoes, “eManggahan” features Butlak Guimaras Specials mini-documentaries, Mobile Legends tournament, and the winning videos of a vlog-making contest.
Gov. Samuel Gumarin will also deliver his State of the Province Address virtually today.
Dubbed as the country’s “sweetest festival”, the muted festivities this year aims to jumpstart the island’s tourism industry stalled by the pandemic.
Among the cancelled events were the Manggahan Ride (Bike and Motorcycle), Manggahan Sports Fest, Agri-Trade Fair, Press Conference, and Manggahan by the Beach, to prevent COVID-19 transmission. (With Province of Guimaras/PN)
