SIBUNAG, Guimaras – Save trees. Protect the environment. These are the additional missions of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO).

In Sitio Tico, Barangay Concordia here recently, GPPO’s Guimaras Provincial Mobile Force Platoon planted trees.

The planting site chosen was a landslide-prone area. The trees planted were narra, mahogany, itang-Itang, and santol among others.

“This is one of the major thrusts of Philippine National Police director Police General Debold Sinas. Every personnel should plant and grow 10 trees, preferably in the watershed areas of their town or province,” said Police Colonel Pablito Asmod Jr., police provincial director.

The tree planting would help raise public awareness “on the importance of planting and saving trees. It is also an expression of our concern for the environment, to diminish the unfavorable effects of climate change,” he added.

Barangay councilwoman Ligaya Sison of Concordia, Sibunag said Sitio Tico was the ideal planting site for being almost tree-barren and landslide-prone.

Barangay officials of Concordia led by Barangay Captain Fredielyn Gallemos also joined the tree planting./PN
