GUIMARAS – This island province received from the Department of Health (DOH) 5,300 more doses of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
These were delivered on Aug. 2 – 4,000 doses CoronaVac, 300 doses AstraZeneca, and 1,000 doses Janssen – and distributed to the municipalities of Jordan, Buenavista, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, and San Lorenzo.
The target population remain to be the frontline health workers, senior citizens and persons with comorbidities.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 3, the total doses that Guimaras had received since DOH started distributing vaccines early this reached 37,154.
Just this July 21, Guimaras received 1,000 vials of the single-shot Jassen vaccine. These are equivalent to 5,000 doses (a vial is good for five doses).
On July 14, the island province was also delivered with 4,300 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.
As of Tuesday, Aug. 3, Guimaras had 94 active COVID-19 cases and 34 deaths.
The 94 active cases were in the towns of Buenavista (23), Nueva Valencia (16), Sibunag (five), San Lorenzo (20), and Jordan (30).
Seventy-eight of these active cases were in quarantine facilities in Guimaras, three on home quarantine, eight in hospitals in Iloilo City and five in the city’s quarantine facilities./PN
