ILOILO City – The island province of Guimaras has recorded only 10 active coronavirus disease 2019 cases on its soil and not a single death as of Sept. 10.
Also, a total of 94 persons in the province who got infected with the viral illness already received their clean bill of health, latest data form the provincial government showed.
The data also revealed that Guimaras logged a total of 104 confirmed COVID infections, 52 of which are local and 48 were locally stranded individuals, Authorized Person Outside Residence and repatriated overseas Filipinos.
The 10 remaining active cases were detected in the towns of Buenavista (five), Jordan (two), Nueva Valencia (two), and San Lorenzo (one).
The town of Sibunag, on the other hand, was still the lone municipality in the province with no confirmed COVID-19 case.
Vice Gov. John Edward Gando hopes that COVID-19 cases in Guimaras would steadily drop after health authorities already tracked down and suppressed the source of infection.
He cited the recent surge of cases at the Iloilo Fish Port Complex in Iloilo City. Some of the Guimarasnons, he said, contracted the viral illness, after visiting the port complex.
“Ginalantaw nga manubo na ang amon local (COVID-19) cases kay ang nagpasaka sini amo ang AC Energy and ang fish port. Kon wala to mas gamay pa gid,” Gando told Panay News.
Gando also revealed the measures of the provincial government in maintaining the zero COVID-19 death status of the province.
“Ang aton mga may comorbidities and senior ginatinguhaan nga magpabilin sa ila balay,” said the vice governor.
Guimaras had been under varying degrees of community quarantine. The province has recorded its first indigenous COVID-19 late July this year./PN
