ILOILO City – A 23-year-old man from Barangay Dasal, Sibunag, Guimaras admitted killing the woman whose body was found in Barangay San Miguel, Jordan town, also in Guimaras on Aug. 2.
But Antonio Mallorca denied raping his former girlfriend, the 23-year-old Emilyn Ganancial who was found dead early morning on Thursday last week at a forested area of Barangay San Miguel a kilometer away from the national highway.
Mallorca did not resist when policemen arrested him at around 8 a.m. yesterday at his house, according to Senior Inspector Karl Stephen Lee Betansos, Jordan police chief.
Mallorca told the police he met Ganancial by chance in Iloilo City on Aug. 1 and asked her if they could talk.
They haven’t talked for quite some time after their breakup, he said.
According to Mallorca, they both greed to talk in Jordan.
In Barangay San Miguel some 300 meters away from the highway, Mallorca said he tried to hug Ganancial but his ex-girlfriend protested. An argument ensued and it became physical.
Mallorca said he hit Ganancial with a stone.
“The suspect had an injury on his forehead. He initially told us he fell from a motorcycle but later admitted he got it during a fight with Ganancial,” said Betansos.
Ganancial was not immediately identified after the discovery of her body. Her face was severely disfigured.
Betansos initially theorized Ganancial may have been raped, too, because her shirt was pulled up her torso and her trousers and underwear pulled down he legs.
Mallorca, however, denied raping his former girlfriend. He said he dragged her to a forested area and this was why her shirt looked like it was pulled up her body.
Betansos said they would rather wait for the result of the autopsy.
“If she was raped, we would file a rape with homicide charge against Mallorca,” he said.
According to Betansos, they have two witnesses who saw Mallorca and Ganancial arguing.
The police also recovered Ganancial’s mobile phone from Mallorca./PN
