ILOILO City – The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) of Guimaras expressed confidence that this year’s Manggahan Festival would attract some 100,000 tourists to the island province.
The festival, with this year’s theme “Matam-is nga Kadalag-an: Manggahan Festival to the World”, opened on May 11 and wraps up today.
According to Liberty Ferrer, provincial tourism officer, last year’s edition of the festival brought in 90,429 tourists (domestic and foreign) and they mainly participated in the “mango eat all you can” activity.
“Ang aton promotion nagsugod pa sang last year sa pag-intra naton sa different cultural events kag pagdala naton sang paho sa Manila. Dira napabalo pa gid naton nga may Manggahan Festival,” said Liberty.
For his part, Gov. Samuel Gumarin observed that since 2016, there had been a 10-percent increase in tourist arrivals each year.
But there is more to Guimaras than just the Manggahan Festival, stressed Gumarin, citing the island province’s many pristine beaches./PN
