Guimaras only province in WV with zero dengue death

A new policy takes effect next month in the provincial government of Guimaras – job hires must have themselves vaccinated against coronavirus disease or their contracts won’t be renewed. Those applying for job hire positions must also be vaccinated.

GUIMARAS – In Western Visayas, Guimaras is the only province that has zero dengue-related deaths, based on the data released by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 – Aedes-Borne Viral Disease Prevention and Control Program.

Bur seven new cases were logged from Sept. 18 to 24, bringing the island province’s dengue cases to 266 as of Sept. 24.

The total dengue cases in the region, on the other hand, reached 12,958 after 192 new cases were recorded from Sept. 18 to 24. The death toll, meanwhile, stands at 73.

The number of dengue cases as of Aug. 24 is 570 percent higher than the 1,933 cases logged in the same period last year.

Data also showed that 40 percent of the total cases belonged to age group one to 10 years old.

Meanwhile, Capiz continues to show an increasing trend in dengue cases for the sixth straight week since Morbidity Week (MW) 32.

DOH-6 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) MW 38 showed that Capiz logged 33 new dengue cases, bringing the total cases to 709 with two deaths.

Iloilo province remains to have the highest number of dengue cases in the region at 2,544 with 20 deaths, followed by Negros Occidental with 4,522 cases (with 28 deaths) and Antique with 2,438 cases (with eight deaths).

Meantime, Aklan has 664 cases with four deaths; Bacolod City has 748 cases with nine deaths; and Iloilo City has 935 cases with two deaths./PN
