GUIMARAS – With the projected influx of pilgrims, tourists and guests at the Balaan Bukid Shrine in Jordan, Guimaras, the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) has issued safety tips to avoid incidents of theft, fire and heat stroke, among others.
* Lock all the doors and windows when leaving the house.
* Make sure appliances are unplugged, and there are no open gas stoves and faucets.
* Do not wear expensive jewelry.
* Comply with minimum public health standards.
* Bring enough drinking water.
* Know the location of the first-aid stations and police assistance desks.
Those who are driving should:
* Make sure that you are in the right condition to drive and to always remain calm.
* Always wear a seatbelt in the car or a helmet when riding a motorcycle.
* Do not drink and drive.
* Avoid using cellphones while driving.
* Keep the correct distance from other vehicles.
* Remember “BLOWBAGETS” (battery, lights, oil, water, brake, air, gas, engine, tire, and self).
The GPPO also advised travelers to travel early to avoid the intense noon heat and long queues, bring only the needed amount of money, and be always on alert.
“Ang Pagtaltal sa Balaan Bukid” is the Guimarasnons’ interpretation of the passion and death of Christ.
Balaan Bukid Shrine was reopened only last year and holding the play was foregone for three consecutive years.
The Lenten play is on its 14th year as a street drama and its 48th year as the Lenten Festival of the municipality of Jordan and the province of Guimaras./PN
