GUIMARAS – To ensure the readiness of the provincial government in responding to sea tragedies, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) held a simulation exercise (SIMEX) at the Jordan wharf in Jordan town on Thursday.

Gov. JC Rahman A. Nava and Jordan’s Mayor Cresente “Engue” Chavez led the activity together with the PDRRMC responders, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Army, personnel from the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital, Red Cross-Guimaras, and various rescue units.

During a boat capsizing scenario, two passengers needed to be rescued. The rescuers showed how fast they could respond; applied first aid to the rescued passengers before rushing them to the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital via an ambulance placed on standby at the Jordan wharf.

PDRRMC said the SIMEX aims to evaluate the current policies and operations of emergency maritime mechanisms and to strengthen the coordination, communication, and roles of the different units and agencies involved during maritime emergencies.

On Aug. 3, 2019, three boats capsized off Iloilo Strait in separate incidents. Thirty-one passengers died. (With a reports from the Provincial Government of Guimaras)/PN
