BUENAVISTA, Guimaras – Aside from its sweet mangoes, the island province of Guimaras is known for the “Pagtaltal” held every Lent.
Currently, the provincial government is girding for visitors who will attend the religious event and come to various tourist attractions in the island during the upcoming holiday season.
In relation to this, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Guimaras District Engineering Office want to make sure that roads in the island are ready.
Officer-in-charge District Engineer Rhodora Nuñal said the 128.962-kilometer national road in the province is completely paved – 120.735 kilometers of which are concrete-paved while 7.617 kilometers are still asphalt overlaid.
Nuñal also said a total of 610 lineal meters of bridges are all in good condition and accessible.
The District Engineering Office is fast-tracking the construction of the road widening projects and drainage systems to minimize inconvenience in the province.
Regular preventive maintenance along national roads is also undertaken to ensure a faster and a more convenient travel for motorists.
The office will also reactivate the “Lakbay Alalay” program to provide emergency assistance and services to the public during the Lent season. (With DPWH Region 6/PN)
