Guimaras records 23 COVID cases and 2 deaths in 2 days

JORDAN, Guimaras – Guimaras recorded 23 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and two more deaths – 13 cases and two deaths on June 1 and 10 new cases on June 2.

The deaths were in Jordan town.

The new cases recorded on June 1 were in the towns of Buenavista (threes), Sibunag (three), Nueva Valencia (one), and Jordan (six).

The June 2 cases, on the other hand, were in the Buenavista barangays of Daragan (five), San Miguel (one), Salvacion (one), Magsaysay (one), Sto. Rosario (one), and Rizal (one).

Overall at present, Guimaras has 89 active COVID-19 cases and 10 casualties.

On the other hand, 467 cases have recovered.

Thirty-eight of the active cases were in Buenavista, 37 in Jordan, 14 in Sibunag, five in Nueva Valencia, and four in San Lorenzo.

Eighty-four of the active cases are being quarantined in Guimaras, three are quarantined in Iloilo City and 11 are hospitalized in the city.

Gov. Samuel Gumarin issued an executive order adopting additional precautionary measures.

“We have to act fast para indi na ini madugangan pa,” he said.

Only essential inbound/outbound travels are allowed such as transport of basic commodities and necessities, emergency cases, medical follow up and exercise of profession.

Individuals positive of COVID-19 and show symptoms referable to the disease shall be denied entry into the province.

Returning or visiting persons coming from outside Western Visayas shall present a negative COVID test result.

Jordan Wharf, Buenavista Wharf, and the Ro-Ro Wharf in Hoskyn, Jordan are the only ports of entry to the province.

The Sebaste Wharf in Sibunag, Puyo Wharf in Nueva Valencia and Tacay Wharf in Buenavista town shall be open for trading/cargo purposes only.

Business establishments are only allowed to operate from 5 a.m. until 4 p.m.  

Sea vessels plying the Guimaras-Iloilo route and vice versa shall operate from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Public utility vehicles can operate from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. only.

Mass gatherings are strictly prohibited.

Dine-in services at food establishments are suspended./PN
