JORDAN, Guimaras – As of Nov. 16, the island province of Guimaras had 30 active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Most of them were close contacts of local COVID-19 cases.
The town of Jordan had the most number of active cases – 13 (11 local cases, one locally stranded individual and one returning overseas Filipino).
Next to Jordan was San Lorenzo – 11 cases (10 local cases and one authorized person outside of residence).
San Lorenzo was followed by Nueva Valencia which had three active cases (one local case and two returning overseas Filipinos).
Meanwhile, the town of Buenavista had two active cases (one local case and one locally stranded individual) and Sibunag had one case, a locally stranded individual.
Eighteen of the 30 active cases are now in various quarantine facilities in Guimaras. One is on home quarantine. Two are in a hospital in Iloilo City. Nine are at a quarantine facility in Iloilo City.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started in March, the Provincial Health Office of Guimaras recorded 205 cases (cumulative). So far, 172 have recovered while three died.
Vice Gov. John Edward Gando again reminded Guimaras to follow minimum public health safety standards – wear facemask, physical distancing and handwashing using soap and water or disinfectant.
He also appealed to the close contacts of COVID-19 cases to not leave their houses and wait for their schedule to be swabbed, then wait patiently for their test results.
Gando also urged vulnerable sectors not to leave their houses unless very necessary. These are persons with disability, pregnant women, senior citizens, youngsters and those with compromised immune systems./PN
