Guimaras State College (GSC), the only state-run higher education institution in the province, celebrated its 50th Founding Anniversary on July 4, 2018.
Governor Samuel Gumarin said how this year is special for both the Province and the said college.
“This year is a year that we Guimarasnons must celebrate. Manggahan Festival turned 25th and the GSC on its 50th. This links the significance of our local culture and the academe sector towards long-term development as we go towards the vision of becoming the agri-eco tourism capital of the region,” he said.
“The long decades as an educational institution of the GSC as a higher learning ground empowers the youth: the future of our island,” he cited.
He said that the vigor for education and social involvement of the GSC in partnership with the local government units for years has developed into a seed of development.
“In the past 50 years, the seed has become a pivotal element in fostering the Filipino values towards building the human capital of our province and innovation capacity towards the development of our country as a whole,” he said.
“Nagbunga ang aton paghugpong kag ini magapadayon sa idalom sang aton mga aktibo kag sinsiro nga mga lideres halin sa inyo kapitolyo probinsiyal asta sa sa mga administrador kag manugtudlo sa ini nga buluthu-an, he added.
One of the highlights of the said celebration is the State of the College Address of Dr. Rogelio Artajo, GSC President.
The event was followed by the parade of 50 lechon and a luncheon at the Agri-Eco Area of the campus.
Furthermore, 50 Most Outstanding Alumni of the GSC were likewise awarded including Asst. Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator and Officer-in-Charge of the Planning Office Ms. Nolinda Ronzales, Provincial Health Officer Dr. NL Cathrel Nava.
Ma. Luz Muchada of the Provincial Health Office and Former Board Member Gerry Yucon received a posthumous recognition.
Congresswoman Ma. Lucille Nava and Buenavista Mayor likewise delivered their messages.
