ILOILO City – With the construction of a flood control structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Guimaras District Engineering Office, residents living near the river in Barangay Tastasan, Buenavista, Guimaras will no longer worry of water overflow during rainy days.
Costing P23.25 million, the flood control structure had a length of 1.188 kilometers along Tastasan River.
According to District Engineer Rhodora Nuñal, the Tastasan Flood Control will help prevent the overflowing of water from the river during rainy days and protect the lives and properties of people living near the river.
“Barangay Tastasan is a flood-prone area. Water reaches houses during heavy rains and destroys agricultural products” Nuñal said.
With this flood control structure, people can sleep well at night even during the rainy season, she stressed.
“Now they don’t have to worry that water might reach their houses or damage their properties,” she added.
The flood control also minimizes the adverse effects of heavy rains such as soil erosion that may destroy farms which is the main source of income of the people living in the area. (DPWH/PN)
