GUIMARAS – The provincial government of Guimaras recently underwent an assessment for the 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
The national validation team was led by Marren E. Juangco-Bautista, LGOO V and SGLG Focal Person of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Cavite.
They were accompanied by the DILG-Guimaras headed by Provincial Director Roselyn B. Quintana, CESE on Oct. 6.
Aside from document review, the national validation team checked the Full Disclosure Policy Board at the provincial capitol and early warning systems for hazards, then visited the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Operation Center, Provincial Evacuation Center, Tourist Information and Assistance Desk, Youth Development Facility, and Population Office.
Gov. JC Rahman A. Nava, in his message, emphasized that the provincial government reaching the national level SGLG validation is already a success.
“This is a product of the whole year grind to create an efficient government for Guimarasnons. Here, we intend to provide more opportunities to our constituency. That’s the main goal. We don’t think we can reach that without trying to or create a very efficient government for that matter. The fact that we reach this stage is a clear manifestation of our commitment for that purpose,” Nava said.
The municipalities of Buenavista and Nueva Valencia, likewise, underwent national validation alongside the provincial government.
The SGLG national validation is conducted in local government units (LGUs) that have passed the regional level of validation or deemed as “potential passers” of the seal.
The Seal of Good Local Governance is the highest recognition given by the DILG to performing LGUs in the delivery of public service through compliance to pertinent national laws and guidelines.
The SGLG 2022 covers 10 governance areas: Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Health Compliance and Responsiveness, Sustainable Education, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety, Peace and Order; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts; Environmental Management; and Youth Development.
