Guimaras wins Best Provincial Statistics Committee

GUIMARAS – For the second consecutive year, this island province bagged the Best Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) in Western Visayas during the 35th National Statistics Month Closing and Awarding Ceremony.

Guimaras outperformed all six provinces in the region in the 2023 performance evaluation conducted by the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The PSC serves as the provincial counterpart to the RSCs and the PSA Board, acting as the highest policymaking body on statistical matters at the provincial level. One of its key functions is to formulate statistical policies aimed at resolving local statistical issues and to recommend practical solutions to government entities at the provincial level for improving provincial statistics.

Recognizing the vital role of the PSC in statistical and development activities both provincially and at the regional and national levels, the Best PSC Award was established to honor those that consistently excel in their functions.

Furthermore, the Best PSC Award acknowledges the efforts and active involvement of PSCs in statistical policymaking, programming, and advocacy at the provincial level. It also encourages PSCs to engage more actively in the discussion and resolution of statistical issues and concerns within their respective provinces.

The provinces are being assessed based on the following criteria: number of approved PSC resolutions, average number of agenda items for approval/discussion/information in all PSC meetings held, average participation rate of PSC members/representatives in meetings, number of meetings convened, submission of NSM reports, and other outputs/accomplishments, such as PSC-initiated workshops, capacity development activities, and outputs related to RSDP, statistical standards and classification systems, and Sustainable Development Goals, among others.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas hosted the awarding ceremony at the Seminar Room 1 of the National Museum of the Philippines in Iloilo, as well as virtually via the Western Visayas NSM Facebook page./PN
