MANILA – Guimarasnon Jovelyn Gonzaga is set for a Cignal HD Spikers homecoming in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) after spending the past few months in beach volleyball scene.

The HD Spikers on Wednesday announced the signing of the former Central Philippine University Golden Lions standout ahead of the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference slated on June 29.

According to Gonzaga, she is very much excited with her Cignal HD return as she will once again team up with Rachel Anne Daquis and be under the guidance of head coach Ceseal delos Santos anew.

“I’m really happy that I’m now back with Cignal,” Gonzaga said. “Subok na kami ng panahon ni Rachel kaya ang gaan lang sa loob na makakasama ko na ulit siya sa isang team.”

“Alam ko na ilalaban niya ako at ipaglalaban ko din naman siya at ang team namin and for sure isa lang goal namin: to win the championship,” added the Guimarasnon volleybelle.

Gonzaga and Daquis were instrumental in the HD Spikers’ championship run in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Invitational Cup where the former was named as the Most Valuable Player.

The two volleybelles also played a key role in Cignal’s runner-up finish in the 2019 All-Filipino Conference against F2 Logistics Cargo Movers and a bronze in the following Invitational Conference.

Gonzaga had her last appearance in the PVL during the 2022 Reinforced Conference for the Army Lady Troopers, which finished without a win in eight games, before shifting her focus on beach volleyball.

In addition to Gonzaga, Cignal has also added former Ateneo standout Vanie Gandler to their pool of wing spikers, which already includes Daquis, Ces Molina, Jerrili Malabanan, Glaudine Troncoso, Chin Basas, and Graze Bombita.

The HD Spikers were aiming to bounce back from their sixth place finish in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference a few months ago./PN
