MANILA – Far Eastern University (FEU) Baby Tamaraws continues to bolster its roster with Western Visayas-based recruits after securing the commitment of Guimarasnon middle blocker Niña Beatrice Maluto.

“Niña has agreed to join the FEU Baby Tamaraws, and she will be a great addition since bata pa siya, and we can develop her all the way to college,” Baby Tamaraws head coach Rjay del Rosario told Panay News. Maluto had participated in FEU’s virtual tryouts months ago.

This 15-year-old former standout of Supang National High School in Guimaras will join the squad as a Grade 10 student.

She is also the seventh Western Visayas-based volleybelle to join the Baby Tamaraws, which aims to bounce back from its fifth-place finish in UAAP Season 82. Others who were previously recruited were Ilonggas Jasmine Therese Balasan, Kyle Pendon, Zchryren Kate Mediavilla, Elizza Anne Alimen, and Fiona Marie Arroyo, and Negrense Frenche Premaylon.

“Niña is our last addition this offseason since puno na ang team namin and I believe naman na napunuan namin ‘yung mga positions na kulang namin with our new recruits,” according to del Rosario.

“It is not by design na puro Ilongga ang recruits namin, but since I know na madaming talented players dito who just need a good exposure,” he added.

Del Rosario is also in talks with two more Ilongga volleybelles in libero Jesselle Mae Abrot and hitter Shauntell Nicole Pido for possible entry to the girls’ volleyball team next year.

“Jesselle is one of the best liberos from Maasin, Iloilo, while Shauntell is also one of the greatest in Iloilo Doctors College so, we are looking forward to having them next year,” said del Rosario./PN
