MANILA – Setter Camille Lamina will continue wearing the blue and gold colors of the National University (NU) after deciding to play her collegiate career with the Lady Bulldogs.
Her pledge got formalized following a meeting with NU’s top officials recently.
The volleybelle was a former standout of Grace Baptist Academy in Buenavista, Guimaras, before joining the Nazareth School of National University Lady Bullpups squad and became a four-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) juniors champion and two-time UAAP best setter.
The 19-year-old Lamina represented the country in the 2019 Association of Southeast Asian Nations School Games girls volleyball event as part of the Lady Bullpups team, where they won a silver medal.
In a previous interview with Richard Gabayoyo at Guimaras Players’ Center Sports Academy podcast, Lamina expressed her gratitude to NU for giving her the chance to play in Manila.
“I am thankful to NU for giving me the opportunity to play in Manila,” the Guimaras-born Lamina said. “I was still playing for Grace Baptist Academy (elementary years) when they offered me to play for them.”
“During my elementary years, I was really playing the spiker position, but the coaches of National University saw that I can be successful as a setter so, they converted me,” she added.
Aside from Bacolodnon middle blocker Gelina Luceno, Ilongga outside hitter Princess Anne Robles, and libero Pearl An Denura, Lamina is the Lady Bulldogs’ fourth Western Visayas-based player./PN
