JORDAN, Guimaras – Guimaras Electric Cooperative (GUIMELCO) announced a significant reduction in electricity rates for June this year. The residential electricity rate for June billing has been decreased by P4.0551 per kilowatt hour (kWh), resulting in a new rate of P10.4135/kWh, down from May 2024’s rate of P14.4686/kWh.
The reduction of rate is primarily due to the decrease of generation charge particularly in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). This is also in compliance with the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) order promulgated on June 13, 2024, under Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Case No. 2024-017-MC.
In the said order, ERC directed distribution utilities “stagger the collection from their consumers of the component of their generation charges arising from WESM purchases for the May 2024 WESM billing month in four equal monthly installments, from June 2024 to September 2024.”
GUIMELCO, together with the Electric Cooperatives Association of Region VI, sent a letter for consideration to the ERC regarding this matter as this may drastically increase the generation charges for the next three months should the WESM rate continues to increase.
However, if the ERC will not consider the request, a significant increase in the generation charge for the succeeding months is expected to cover the remaining monthly installments should the WESM rate continue to increase.
Additionally, ERC in its decision dated March 20, 2024, for ERC Case No. 2022- 051RC, authorized TransCo to collect a new Feed-In Tariff Allowance (FIT-All) Rate of P0.0838/kWh from its previous rate of P0.0364/kWh effective June 2024 billing.
The board and management of GUIMELCO urge all member-consumer-owners (MCOs) to adopt electricity conservation measures to help mitigate the impact of higher electricity bills.
