ILOILO City – An entrapment operation led to the arrest of a suspected gunrunner in Barangay Tanghawan, Dingle, Iloilo.
Barangay tanod (village watchman) Jessie Sumagaysay, 31, was caught in his house where he sold a homemade .9mm-caliber pistol with three magazines to an undercover police officer for P29,000.
“We have been negotiating with him for more than two weeks,” said Senior Inspector Samuel Vipinosa, Dingle police chief. “We learned about his business from another buyer.”
Municipal police officers staged the operation around 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday.
The homemade firearms were made in Cebu City. Sumagaysay would call the maker if there are any orders, Vipinosa said, citing initial investigation.
“We are trying to trace his cohort, the one who delivers the homemade firearms,” the Dingle police chief said.
Sumagaysay was facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
