ILOILO City – A couple was arrested in Barangay San Juan, Molo district yesterday for shabu and unlicensed guns and ammunition.
Policemen raided the house of spouses Walter and Ma. Era Castro around 8:30 a.m. and recovered the following:
* unlicensed .38 revolver with five bullets
* homemade 12-gauge shotgun
* M67 grenade
* holster
* seven sachets of shabu
The search warrant was issued by Judge Victor Gelvezon of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 36.
According to Chief Inspector Marlon Valencia, Molo police chief, the seven sachets of shabu were recovered from Ma. Era’s bag.
The Castros were using their frozen food business as a “front” for drug trafficking, said Valencia. The suspects, however, denied this.
The couple also claimed the items supposedly recovered from them were “planted.”
The Castros would be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Valencia./PN
