BACOLOD City – A woman landed in a hospital in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental after sustaining a gunshot wound on the abdomen, a police report showed.
The 32-year-old Gema Espirela was rushed to the Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital on Sunday. She was still under treatment as of this writing.
The investigation that Kabankalan City police – led by Superintendent Rhea Santos – conducted revealed that Espirela’s husband Rodolfo was planning to shoot birds from the second floor of their house in Sitio Badiangay, Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City around 7:40 on Sunday.
Espirela tried to stop her husband. They grappled over the gun, investigators said.
The gun fell on the floor and accidentally fired twice, hitting Espirela on the stomach, added the investigators.
Espirela’s sister-in-law Pheobe Contiga told the police that they heard two gunshots that day.
Police searched the house and discovered two empty shells and a .38-caliber gun without serial number loaded with four live bullets./PN
