Guv wants nat’l gov’t to maintain Iloilo prov’l roads

ILOILO – This province has provincial roads concreted from national government programs.

“It is better to turn over the ownership of these roads to the national government for maintenance,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

The national government can maintain the roads; it has funds under its “Build, Build, Build” program, he explained.

Road concreting in the province is either under Iloilo’s capital outlay, as national government project, under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces or Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), among others.

For the time being, Defensor has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways to help the province maintain the cleanliness of roads and highways.

“I want the dengue cleanup drive of to graduate to the purposes of the province in health and tourism. That is what I am trying to order right now,” Defensor said.

He specifically asked for “aggressive cutting off weeds.”

“There will be a huge difference if we can also free out highways from plastics and papers,” he added.

Defensor noted that plastics, papers and other trash on the roads are most probably littered by passengers from passing vehicles. (PNA)
