Guv’s boxing tourney in Oct.

BACOLOD City – The 5th Negros First Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon Jr., Boxing Cup Open Championship finals this October will be a part of the MassKara Festival celebration.

The venue is the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports (BAYS) Center, said Angel “Nonong” Verdeflor, Negros Occidental sports coordinator head.

Hundreds of boxers from the entire province will vie for titles in different weight categories, added Verdeflor, also the Western Visayas president of the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines, Inc. (ABAP).

Earlier, Cadiz and Sagay cities signified intention to host the event.

Last year’s final was held in La Carlota City.

District 1 (Escalante City, San Carlos City, Toboso, Calatrava and Salvador Benedicto) was the overall champion, winning most the titles in different weight categories.

It collected eight gold and seven silver medals.

The 4th District boxers, mostly composed of ring fighters from Bago City, placed second overall with seven gold medals and three silvers.

The 2nd District composed of boxers from the cities of Cadiz and Sagay and the town of Manapla placed third with five gold medals and three silvers.

The 6th District (Cauayan, Hinobaan, Ilog, Kabankalan and Sipalay) finished with three gold and two silver medals.

The 5th District had three gold and a silver medals while the 3rd District had one gold and nine silver medals.

The champion team received P5,000 and trophy, while the first runner-up took home P3,000 and trophy.

The second runner-up received P2,000 and a trophy.
