ILOILO City – A fashion show featuring hablon creations of Ilonggo designers will be held as part of a dinner for Iloilo City’s sister cities.
In celebration of the city’s 81st Charter Day, the local government will host the Sister Cities Night at the historic Elizalde Building on Aug. 25.
“This will be similar to what we did during the trade mission in New York and Washington, DC, USA in June,” City Protocol Officer Jorvelyn Jaruda-Espinosa said of the fashion show.
This time, however, “the department heads will serve as models,” said Jaruda-Espinosa.
“We believe that it’s not enough to say that you’re proud of your culture – you must wear your culture and show it to the people,” she added.
Themed “Weaving of Cultures,” the gathering aims to showcase Ilonggo culture and strengthen Iloilo’s cultural and economic relationship with its sister cities.
“We want them to see a glimpse of our city and culture,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
Expected to attend are representatives from San Juan, Koronadal and Bacolod, and Dededo and Agat in Guam.
“We have sent invitations to the cities starting last month,” said Espinosa. “We’re glad some have already shown interest in coming.”
In addition city hall plans to hold an Investment Forum, where sustainable growth, development and business opportunities in the metro will be presented to guests. (Thessalonia Ordales, Iloilo City PIO/PN)
