Hair today, gone tomorrow

ON THE news there was a report that Mt. Rushmore is closed because of storm worries, but is that the truth?

Was it in fact closed so that engineers and hairdressers could examine the mountain and work out how to create a realistic copy of ex-President Trump’s hair style out of solid rock?

Maybe they could just use whatever technology that created the original hair.

Water to satisfy the thirst of a waiting voter

The United Nations (UN) statement on “Human Rights to Water and Sanitation” includes “physically accessible” and although it doesn’t mention “voters in line”. It is implied that it should be available anywhere, but it appears not so in Georgia, USA.

The new law in Georgia makes it a misdemeanor crime to give food or drinks to voters waiting in long lines and again, although not mentioned, it is apparent that this will affect Black voters the most.

What reasonable legislator could think it is wrong for people to hand out free water and food to anyone?

What reasonable legislator could think that a bottle of water and a roll could make a voter change their voting intention?

What reasonable legislator still thinks the election was stolen?

What reasonable legislator would try to make it more difficult for anyone to vote?

Apparently a few in Georgia think this way and maybe it would be best to vote them out as soon as possible and celebrate their departure, not with a glass of champagne but a bottle of water.

A new Christmas present

The Cherry Blossom festival in Japan has started early this year, in fact the earliest ever since 812 when the event was first recorded.

The festival signals the traditional sign of the start of Spring. The start of Spring is determined by nature and not by a calendar, and nature knows that climate change is real and not just an occasional odd result.

Since nature and scientists have recognized the effects of climate change, why are there still so many that doubt it?

Of course, the benefit might be that when it eventually starts to happen at Christmas time it will be easier for people to use their Christmas holiday break to go and see it. (dfitzger@melbpc.org.au/PN)
