Half of Bacolod City brgys COVID-free for two weeks

BACOLOD City – Of the 61 barangays here, 31 are now considered free from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

These 31 villages have zero COVID-19 infections for the past 14 days, according to the city’s Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF).

They were barangays 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 31, 33, 34, 36, 37, 38, 41, Sum-ag, and Punta Taytay.  

“This is a big improvement. Last month, 78 percent of our barangays had active COVId-19 cases – now it’s down to only 49 percent,” said City Administrator Em Ang, also the EOC-TF’s executive director and deputy for administration and operations.

She hopes that this trend would continue until next year, saying the task force is expecting for more barangays to be COVID-free.  

For her part, Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, thanked barangay officials and members “who are fighting on the ground.”

Pallen reiterated that the fight against COVID-19 is ultimately at the grassroots where the barangay captains play the major leadership role.  

“We have to bring the battle to the barangays as we hunt down the virus in every home, office or store,” she added.

Pallen reminded both barangay officials and Bacolodnons, “Let us continue our cooperation with the government and sustain our efforts towards a COVID-free Bacolod.”

Earlier this month, the EOC-TF reported that there were 28 Bacolod barangays considered “COVID-free” for two weeks./PN
