KALIBO, Aklan – A construction worker found two hand grenades in Barangay Pook.
The MK2 and M26 fragmentation hand grenades still had their safety levers when the police retrieved them.
Radel Maming was digging for a house construction in Sitio Talipapa around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday when he found the explosives.
Senior Police Officer 4 Vengie Repedro of the Provincial Public Safety Company’s Explosives and Ordnance (EOD) Team said they safely took the grenades in custody.
The lot owner reported the discovery to the municipal police station, which in turn reached the EOD Team.
The operatives cordoned the area before retrieving the explosives.
Repedro said the grenades were placed in a plastic container and buried about a meter underground.
“They could explode if their safety levers are removed,” he stressed.
The police theorized the former lot owner owned the hand grenades.
Meanwhile, Repedro said all the explosives stocked at the Aklan Police Provincial Office had been disposed at the Camp Gen. Macario Peralta Jr., headquarters of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, in Jamindan, Capiz in March. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
