ILOILO City – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (RDRRMCs) in Visayas and Mindanao gathered in this city for two days to come up with a harmonized contingency plan for earthquakes.
The two-day workshop on the development of the coordinated contingency plan was conducted July 31 and Aug. 1.
RDRRMC Western Visayas chairman and regional director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Rosario Cabrera said the councils in Luzon already formulated a contingency plan for 7.2 magnitude earthquake.
“The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through OCD’s Capacity Building Training Service brought this program to Iloilo City for the Mindanao and Visayas councils to provide inputs and amend if there is something to amend, and to harmonize our contingency plan for the ‘Big One,’” she said.
They tackled about which responding regions would provide the primary and secondary augmentation in case an earthquake strikes.
Recently, one of the strongest earthquakes recorded was magnitude 6.5. It struck Leyte.
“In case an earthquake paralyzes our national government based in Metro Manila, what course of action should we undertake,” said Cabrera.
