MANILA – Cignal HD Spikers arrested its losing skid in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 straight-set romp over Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers on Thursday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Judith Abil spearheaded the offense with 13 points, on 10 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace, as the HD Spikers snapped their two-game slide to improve to a 6-3 win-loss slate.
“Gusto ko lang din tumulong sa team, and ‘yung ginagawa namin sa practice ina-apply lang namin sa laro namin. Basta palo lang ng palo,” Abil said in her Player of the Game interview.
Rookie Ma. Rochelle Lalongisip also made her presence felt with 13 points, including 12 attacks, while Roselyn Doria-Aquino contributed 11 markers, including four blocks, for the HD Spikers.
Trisha Genesis and Leila Cruz finished with six points apiece to lead the way for the Solar Spikers, while Maria Shola Alvarez added five markers as they suffered their fifth straight loss to drop to a 1-8 mark.
Meanwhile, defending chanpions Creamline Cool Smashers continued its hot start om after a 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 sweep over the slumping Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
Bea de Leon stepped up with 13 points, built on eight attacks, three service aces, and two blocks, to be named Player of the Game as the Cool Smashers improved to an 8-0 record.
“It’s a team effort, everybody really helped and nag-execute lang kami,” De Leon said after the game. “(Creamline) coach Sherwin (Meneses) kept on saying na mag-execute lang kami and everything else just followed.”
“Nung sa first two sets come-from-behind kami, and in third set we just set our focus na we have that extra last push sa third set para hindi na umabot hanggang fifth set,” she added.
Victonara Galang finished with 14 points, on 12 attacks and two blocks, for the Crossovers, which suffered their third consecutive defeat to drop to a 5-5 win-loss slate./PN
