IN A sport where height is considered a big plus, Ilongga hitter Princess Anne Robles of National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs showed that a lack of it is not a complete disadvantage.
Standing 5-foot-3, the native of Barangay Sto. Niño Sur in Arevalo, Iloilo City, was banking on her smartness, accuracy and power on the court for her numerous achievements since high school.
“Sa akin hindi naman mahalaga ‘yung height. Ang importante po dun kung paano ko dalhin ‘yung laro ko sa loob ng court,” said Robles, a former standout of Sto. Niño Elementary School and Central Philippine University Golden Lions.
Aside from her championships from Iloilo City to Manila, Robles was also a two-time National PRISAA MVP with the Golden Lions, UAAP Season 79 juniors division MVP with NU Bullpups and best server awardee in her rookie year with the Lady Bulldogs.
“Happy ako for the team every time na nagcha-champion, whether in Iloilo or in Manila because it shows all the hardships that we undergone and also reminds us that worth it ‘yung mga sacrifices namin as a team,” Robles told Sports LANG.
“Of course, the gold medals I won sa Iloilo City helped me to achieve my dream to play in Manila. Pangarap ko din kasi na makapag-aral sa isang university dito,” the Ilongga added.
With a complete roster heading into the UAAP Season 83 next year, the Ilongga star is hoping that the Lady Bulldogs can complete its title run after their dominant run in Season 82 was cut short with the league cancellation.
“Ang goal ko and ng team is to win the UAAP championship sa Season 83,” Robles said. “Gagawin namin ang best namin as a team and me personally I will continue to strive harder sa ensayo.”/PN
