POTOTAN, Iloilo – Hercor College Junior Jaguars made history by becoming the first team from Roxas City, Capiz to rule the Passerelle division of the 34th SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament Visayas Regional Finals.
The Junior Jaguars scored an 88-68 domination of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu in the finals on Sunday at the Pototan Astrodome here.
Joshua Mainar spearheaded the attacks for the Capiznons with 19 points. John Lloyd Ubas chipped in 15 markers while Eden Aldaba contributed 12 points.
The Junior Jaguars had a fiery start. It jumped to a 24-12 lead behind 13 early points by Mainar.
The Cebuanos answered with a rally in the second period to snatch the lead at the half, 39-35.
In the third, the Junior Jaguars was able to keep in step with the Cebuanos; it took a 59-55 edge before pulling away in the fourth by building an 81-66 advantage on a triple by Kent Gaitan.
For scoring the historical first, the Jeffrey Abool-mentored Junior Jaguars earned a ticket to the national finals slated on Nov. 23 and 24 in Roxas City, Capiz.
Meanwhile, University of St. La Salle of Bacolod salvage a bronze medal finish after defeating last year’s champion St. Robert’s International Academy of Iloilo, 63-53./PN
