In light of the completion of the MRT-3 Rehabilitation Project, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is offering free MRT-3 rides until April 30, 2022. Naturally, some commuters are asking online about how they can avail of these complimentary rides.
Well, it isn’t as simple as walking into the station and straight onto the platform. If you have a Beep card, you still need to tap your card on the ticket gates upon entry or exit—this should not affect your card’s balance.
If you have no stored-value card, you can queue up for a single-journey ticket at the booths and use these to pass the ticket gates. Take note, however, that even if the MRT-3 rides are free, you’ll still be charged P50 for lost or damaged tickets.

How to avail a FREE RIDE of MRT-3, from March 28 to April 30, 2022?
A month-long FREE RIDE on MRT-3 for all passengers, offered by the line management and the Department of Transportation, begin Monday in celebration of the completion of the rail line rehabilitation.
It will also help passengers amid rising fuel and commodity prices.
With the implementation of the FREE BOARD, passengers will not have to pay anything, no matter which station they come from or go to, at any time during the entire operation of MRT-3.
For passengers with a valid Stored Value or Beep Card, simply tap the card at the ticket gate to enter the platform and board the train. To exit the platform, you also simply need to tap the card at the ticket gate. Nothing will be deducted from the Beep Card balance.
For passengers without a Beep Card, simply go to the ticket booth and get a Single Journey Ticket. There is no charge for getting it. Just tap the ticket at the ticket gate to enter the platform and board the train. To exit the platform, simply insert the ticket into the ticket gate inlet.
With the implementation of FREE RIDE, minimum health protocols will still be strictly enforced throughout the line. It is forbidden to eat, drink, talk, and answer calls inside trains. Facemask must be worn at all times and the wearing of the face shield must be voluntary. (TopgearPH News)
