BACOLOD City – A local energy advocacy group has high expectations in the proposed joint venture between MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) and Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco).
Power Watch Negros (PWN) secretary general Wennie Sancho said Ceneco failed in its task of overhauling and rehabilitating the most basic energy facilities.
“Most of Ceneco’s substations are in derelict condition and approaching maximum capacity. The substation protection features do not include a transformer differential protection that protects the power transformers from internal and external faults,” Sancho said.
He added that there were no calibration for thousands of old and defective meters.
The Negros-based electric cooperative, according to Sancho, also failed to replace distribution lines and poles with insulated and sturdier ones.
“We would like to think that the framers of the proposed joint venture had incorporated the complaints we had cited as one of the underlying principles to level up the technical operation of Ceneco,” said Sancho.
The secretary general expressed hopes that MORE Power will come up with a scheme to reconfigure the system, especially during unscheduled interruptions.
“This new system should have the capacity to handle bigger demand from consumers and industries,” added Sancho./PN
