ILOILO City – Western Visayas recorded 58 fatalities due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Aug. 17. This was the highest number of COVID deaths recorded in just one day in the region.
These deaths were from Iloilo City (28), Aklan (29) and Capiz (one), bringing the region’s total pandemic casualties to 2,232.
As of Aug. 17, of the highly urbanized cities and provinces in the region, Iloilo province had the highest COVID deaths at 528 followed by Iloilo City with 417.
Negros Occidental had 414; Bacolod City, 371; Capiz, 226; Aklan, 124; Antique, 119; and Guimaras, 33.
The region also logged 421 additional coronavirus positive cases yesterday, bringing the total active cases in the region to 10,791.
There were also 62 new COVID recoveries yesterday. Total recoveries in the region are now at 81,804./PN
