BACOLOD City – The City Government of Himamaylan in Negros Occidental and the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Negros Island Region officially broke ground for the P140-million farm-to-market road in Barangay Carabalan on Thursday, January 9.
Spanning 5.90 kilometers, the project is funded under the DA’s Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP).
The said road, linking Sitio Labhid and Sitio Casipungan, is eyed to provide a faster and safer access to local farmers and producers in upland Himamaylan, said Mayor Raymund Tongson who led the groundbreaking ceremony with DA-Negros Island Region Executive Director Albert Barogo.
Prior to this, on January 8, a P10-million Swine Multiplier Farm and Techno Demo Farm was inaugurated at Sitio Culban, Barangay Carabalan.
The project was funded under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program of the DA.
Mayor Tongson accompanied Provincial Veterinarian Placeda Lemana, Provincial Board member Anton Occeño and officials from Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 6 in touring the new state-of-the-art facility intended to support local hog raisers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) in the province./PN
