BACOLOD City – City government employees are expected to report until 5 p.m. on Holy Wednesday.

Holidays do not start until Maundy Thursday, stressed Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Roman Catholics are observing the Holy Week. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are regular holidays.

Some city hall workers no longer report for work as early as Holy Wednesday, as observed in previous years, Leonardia noted.

The mayor hopes this will not happen this year. There is no order declaring Holy Wednesday a nonworking holiday, he said.

This way, city hall offices will not be left like a “skeleton,” with only 20 percent of personnel on duty, said Leonardia.

Leonardia said he may issue a memo informing department heads to allow vacation leaves on April 12 only for those with “very important” and urgent reasons so as not to hamper city hall services.

Police are on full alert. All their vacation leaves this week were cancelled, said Superintendent Danilo Francisco, deputy director for operations of the Bacolod City Police Office.

Their Oplan Ligtas Sumvac (summer vacation) covers the Lenten season.

Police assistance desks will be set up in areas of convergence, including churches, transport terminals and malls./PN
