ILOILO City – The observance of Holy Week was generally peaceful, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) yesterday.
“I have not received reports on any untoward incident from our units in relation to the observance of Lent. All is well,” said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director.
He thanked the public for their cooperation.
“We have enough men securing churches, tourist spots and other places of convergence,” said Gentiles.
In this city alone, 467 police personnel were mobilized, said Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, director of the Iloilo City Police Office.
Cops also conducted random inspection of people for illegal drugs and deadly weapons.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office, on the other hand, established 155 assistance desks in priority areas – churches, municipal plazas, beach resorts (from Oton to San Joaquin towns) and tourist attractions.
On Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, Gentiles and Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, roamed around the province and supervised their men./PN
