Hospital halts accepting patients with flu-like symptoms

BACOLOD City – The Bago City Hospital in Negros Occidental temporarily stopped accept patients exhibiting flu-like symptoms such as cough and difficulty in breathing.

Holding tents were fully occupied, according to an advisory signed by Dr. Jesus Rey Pacilan, officer-in-charge and chief of hospital.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.

Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.

However, Pacila made it clear that the hospital still accommodates emergency cases, non-respiratory, and OB patients as long as they have negative RT-PCR (reverse transcription – polymerase chain reaction) test results.

The hospital also appealed that the referral system be strictly observed so that their triage and emergency room personnel would be aware and could give the necessary medical advice to patients.

Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment, according to the World Health Organization.

Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness./PN
