KALIBO, Aklan – The provincial government of Aklan has lifted one of its entry requirements to Boracay, allowing tourists to set foot on the island without presenting hotel booking vouchers.
Starting Nov. 15, visitors will no longer have to submit ‘hotel vouchers’ via the AKQUIRE System to secure a Quick Response code before entering the island or any point in the province of Aklan.
Restrictions on returning Aklanons or travelers were first imposed in February 2022 following the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
“The submission of hotel vouchers is one of the categories listed under the AKQUIRE System as a prerequisite before entry to Boracay Island, the implementation of which was already lifted and covered by Executive Orders No. 003 and No. 047,” the governor stressed.
The lifting of pre-entry requirements is also crucial to reviving the tourism economy and helping revitalize international travel to Aklan.
Boracay saw 1,821,594 visitors from January to December, slightly higher than the 1,439,367 in 2022.
The number of tourists also registered 70,501, with 57,416 locals from Nov. 1 to 15. This year, the island is expecting at least two million tourists./PN
