House bill proposes ‘late’ class start

BACOLOD City – Representative Greg Gasataya introduced a bill in Congress regulating school hours to start not earlier than 8:30 a.m.

“I filed this bill because the students’ present lifestyles affect their night-time sleep. They don’t get enough of sleep, but then they need to wake up early for their 7:30 a.m. classes,” he said.

The bill that orders the Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (Ched) to adjust the school hours was filed on Thursday and it will be referred to the House Committee for assessment.

Gasataya said he received this concern after a series of discussion and dialogues with the students and parents in the City.

“This proposal will be a big help for the health of our children and students,” he said./PN
