MANILA — Twenty thousand house-and-lot packages will be built for soldiers, policemen and other uniformed personnel in the country.

The national government has released P5.46 billion to the National Housing Authority (NHA) for the project.

To benefit from the project are personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Corrections.

The amount was sourced from the Budgetary Support to Government Corporations under the 2014 General Appropriations Act, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said.

Once the government successfully builds the houses, the total number of completed units will increase to 66,852 from the time the housing program was implemented in 2011, the DBM disclosed.

As of May 31, a total of 46,852 housing units have been completed, with an accomplishment rate of 75 percent of the total target of 62,790 units set as of 2013.

Of the P5.46 billion, P2.73 million will go to Region 6 for the construction of 1,000 housing units.

On the other hand, Regions 4-A and III will get the biggest shares of P1.77 billion and P1.64 billion for 6,500 and 6,000 housing units, respectively./PN
