YOUNGER Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix cagers followed the feat of their elders as they captured the title in the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association Meet elementary boys’ basketball.
The Red Phoenix clinched the crown in two games following a 50-41 win over University of San Agustin on Friday afternoon at the Western Institute of Technology gym in Iloilo City.
Jake Andrei Guarra led the way with 17 points, while Rod Efren Hautea added 14 markers for the Red Phoenix. Clark John Salvania was the lone bright spot for San Agustin with 17 markers.
It was a close fight for both squads in the first two quarters before the Red Phoenix pulled away in the third period behind Guarra and Hautea for a double-digit edge and never looked back.
Also part of the Red Phoenix were Keith Berni Dave Lauron, Amiel Dema-ala, Kris Antiquera, Nico Salazar, Emmel Bardenas, Nino Paul Balledos, Justin Javelona, Sean Alpasan, Adam Belonio, Third Bayona, Jacob Fuller, and Juels Tuares.

Meanwhile John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University forced a do-or-die Game 3 in the tertiary men’s basketball finals after a 74-69 win over Iloilo Doctors’ College in Game 2.
Chad Mark Lingga top-scored with 21 points while Rayghan Panizales added 17 markers for John B. Lorence Nicole Magtolis finished with 21 points for Doctors’.
The do-or-die Game 3 will be on Monday afternoon in the same venue./PN
