Hua Siong, San Ag go 2-0 in NBTC Iloilo leg

HUA SIONG College of Iloilo Red Phoenix and University of San Agustin surged to a 2-0 start in the National Basketball Training Center Iloilo leg on Thursday at the Western Institute of Technology gym.

The defending champion Red Phoenix had a tough time against The Integrated Academy School Systems Inc. (TIASS) before escaping with a 71-66 win. Reynold Tupas led the way with 17 markers for Hua Siong.

The victory allowed the Vincent Conlu-mentored Red Phoenix to seize the solo lead in Group A with 2-0 win-loss slate, while the TIASS tied Mandurriao National High School at 1-1.

SanAg also claimed its second victory after a 108-55 domination over Filipino American School Town (FAST). Gilson Siscar tallied 20 markers, while Joshua Emanuel Sanchez added 17 for the SanAg.

SanAg is now tied with the Iloilo National High School at Group D leaderboard at 2-0, while FAST was deadlock with the Santa Isabel College of Iloilo with 0-2 win-loss record.

Ateneo de Iloilo Blue Dragons, meanwhile, entered the win-column in Group B after a 69-32 rout of St. Paul University of Iloilo. Gem Owen Gregorio had 14 points, while Raphael Mendoza added 11 markers for the winning team.

Sun Yat Sen High School, on the other hand, survived a huge challenge from Assumption School-Passi City Inc. before escaping with an 84-81 overtime win. Arvin Paul Tabares fired 38 points, while Jan Teves added 25 for Sun Yat Sen./PN
