Hua Siong, St. Roberts advance in ISSA boys basketball

HUA SIONG College of Iloilo Red Phoenix and St. Roberts International Academy Panda Rockets gained outright semifinals seats in secondary boys basketball Category A in the Iloilo Schools Sports Association Meet.

The Red Phoenix defeated Sun Yat Sen High School 79-66 at the Western Institute of Technology gym, completing a five-game sweep of its Category A games.

Reynold Tupas anchored their offense on Wednesday with 23 points while Lee Yanzi Jimera chipped in 10 markers for the Red Phoenix, the defending champions. Sun Yat Sen dropped to 1-4.

For their part, the Panda Rockets scored a 97-70 victory over PAREF-Westbridge. Dexter Hans Gange leading the way with 17 points and Wilfredo Dinate chipped in 15 markers.

The Red Phoenix (5-0) and the Panda Rockets (4-1) went straight to the semifinal round for finishing at top two. Hua Siong also earned a twice-to-beat semifinals incentive for sweeping the eliminations.

CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights (3-2), Sun Yat Sen (1-4) and Ateneo de Iloilo (1-4) headed safely into the knockout quarterfinal round for placing third, fourth and fifth in Category A.

No. 6 PAREF-Westbridge (1-4), meanwhile, will face Category B winner Santa Clarita International School Primes in a do-or-die game for the last quarterfinals seat Friday afternoon.

The loser in this game will be relegated to Category B of the Meet’s secondary boys next year, according to Commissioner Joe-an Tenorio./PN
