ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force apprehended a Danish seine fishing boat, locally known as “hulbot-hulbot,” in the waters of Anhawan Island in Barangay Bagongon, Concepcion town on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Dr. Raul Banias, provincial administrator, a team led by Police Staff Sergeant Roderick Asturias, under the supervision of Police Lieutenant Colonel Abner T. Jordan, was onboard a patrol speed boat when they spotted the fishermen of F/B Olo.

The “hulbot-hulbot” was skippered by Nino Ballena Arellado, 46, of Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla, Negros Occidental, with five crew members.

The boat was equipped with two Yamma 18HP engines, two propellers, two shaftings, one rudder, 280 meters of scaring line, one set of Danish seine fishing net, and five kilos of assorted fish worth more or less P900.

Banias said the fishermen, informed of their constitutional rights, face charges for violation of Section 86 of the Republic Act of 10654 (n Act to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing) as amended.

Arellado was brought to Concepcion Municipal Police Station for proper disposition, while the confiscated items were presently under the custody of the task force./PN
